At Ideas + Outcomes, we get a lot of briefs. Some are tight and tidy. Others are a little… let’s say, abstract. And honestly? We don’t always need one. We always say, don’t give us a brief, give us a problem. We do our best work when we start with a problem to solve. But, problems can be complex and it can be difficult to put a brief together when you don’t have all the information.

Because the truth is, most briefs are built on assumptions. They’re often shaped by opinions, gut feelings, or internal conversations that haven’t been stress-tested with real data or cross-team perspectives. It’s no one’s fault. When you're in the day-to-day of running a business, it’s hard to step back and see what’s really going on.

And sometimes, the problem a team thinks they have - “We need a rebrand” or “Our ads aren’t converting” - is actually just a symptom of something deeper. Misaligned strategy. Conflicting goals. Lost sales and/or customers. The result could be hindering your commercial growth.

You might not be sure of the problem, or you know what it is but not how to fix it. That’s where our Wayfinder Business Diagnostic Workshop comes in. We thrive on complexity and are happy to come in at any stage to diagnose and deliver a path to better outcomes.

Wayfinder is designed for businesses that either don’t know the problem to begin with or are struggling to find the right solution to the issues they’ve been facing. In just two hours, we help you untangle the noise, uncover the real root issues, and map out a clear, confident path forward.

So, what is Wayfinder?

Wayfinder is a 2-hour, focused workshop designed to help you do three things really well:

  1. Define the real problem (not just the symptoms)

  2. Align your team around a clear direction and strategy

  3. Create a clear, actionable plan for what to do next and how to solve the problem

No jargon. No fluff. Just straight-talking facilitation, collaborative thinking, and a solid direction of travel. These workshops are designed to bring people in from all around your business. Rich conversations, rich debate. All these different perspectives help us get to the root of the problem and ensure everybody is on the same journey from the get-go.

Why it works

When you’re deep inside your business, it’s easy to lose perspective. That’s why Wayfinder is run by us - an experienced, objective team who can cut through internal politics and help you see the bigger picture. Here’s what you get:

Expert perspective

We bring a fresh, outside-in view, with the experience to spot what’s holding you back and where the opportunities lie.

Clarity

You’ll leave with a much clearer understanding of what the problem really is, and how best to focus your efforts moving forward.

Alignment

Wayfinder invites key stakeholders from across your business, so you can surface conflicting viewpoints, get everyone heard, and leave with a unified direction.

Direction of travel

You’ll walk away with clear next steps - whether that’s diving deeper with research, refining your strategy, or something else entirely.

Unbiased facilitation

Because we’re not part of your internal world, we can ask the difficult questions, challenge assumptions, and keep things honest and focused on solving the root problem.

What happens in the workshop?

Here’s how the 2-hour session is structured:

  1. Introduction & expectations (15 mins)
We set the scene, introduce key stakeholders and get everyone aligned on what we’re here to do.

  2. Problem framing (30 mins)
We dig into the challenge, asking the kind of questions that help shape your thinking and clarify scope.

  3. Stakeholder alignment (30 mins)
We bring cross-functional teams together (sales, marketing and operations) to share perspectives and find common ground.

  4. Identifying core issues (30 mins)
Together, we drill down into the root causes of the problem, identify any barriers and prioritise what really needs solving.

  5. Next steps & action plan (30 mins)
With the insights gained, we wrap it all up with a summary of next steps, a clear direction of travel, and the most effective way to address the identified challenges.
